Charges against a former University of Virginia student who was arrested during the Wertland Block Party were certified in Charlottesville General District Court Thursday.

Cayden J. Dalton was arrested on Aug 26, after Charlottesville police responded to a 2 a.m. call at 1215 Wertland St. — the same time and location as the block party.

Dalton was charged with felony abduction, felony strangulation and misdemeanor assault. He has remained at the Albemarle-Charlottesville Regional Jail since his arrest.

UVa officials confirmed that Dalton was enrolled at the university in fall 2016 and is no longer enrolled. They refused to confirm when his enrollment ended.

On Thursday, Dalton waived his right to a preliminary hearing on his two felony charges. He will appear at Charlottesville Circuit Court on Tuesday for docket call.

The party is not affiliated with the university and has been subject to discouragement by officials for the risks it poses for students. The annual event happens at various student residences on Wertland Street on the Saturday night of move-in weekend.
