Lee uncovered

The tarp over the statue of Confederate Gen. Robert E. Lee in downtown Charlottesville was removed overnight.

The tarp over the statue of Confederate Gen. Robert E. Lee in downtown Charlottesville was removed sometime between Saturday night and early Sunday.

The City Council voted last week to cover the statue with black fabric, a sign of mourning for Heather Heyer, a local woman who died during the violent Unite the Right rally.

The nearby statue of Gen. Thomas “Stonewall” Jackson, which also was covered with a tarp, remained shrouded Sunday morning.
