A White House staff member is leaving President Donald Trump’s administration and joining the University of Virginia’s Miller Center.
Marc Short will become a senior fellow at the Miller Center on Aug. 1, according to the center. He received an MBA from UVa’s Darden School of Business in 2004, and has been a guest speaker at Darden as part of the Business and Government Relations course.
Short also will take a position at Guidepost Strategies, a consulting firm.
He is currently Trump’s legislative affairs director and previously served as a senior aide to Vice President Mike Pence during the 2016 campaign. The White House has announced that economic aide Shahira Knight with replace Short.
The Miller Center responded to criticism over the appointment on Twitter, saying that it “is committed to nonpartisan study of the presidency.” The statement also noted that Short joins alumni of various Republican and Democratic administrations, such as Director William Antholis, who served as an adviser under President Bill Clinton.
