RICHMOND — Authorities said Friday afternoon that all lanes of northbound Interstate 95 are closed in Spotsylvania County for a single-vehicle crash at mile marker 123.
Mile marker 123 is between Exit 118 (Thornburg) and Exit 126 (Spotsylvania).
The Virginia Department of Transportation said motorists on northbound I-95 can expect significant travel delays in the area for the remainder of this afternoon and into the early evening.
Northbound traffic on I-95 is being detoured at Exit 118 to northbound U.S. Route 1, where traffic can re-enter the interstate north of the crash at Exit 126.
Northbound traffic on I-95 that is stopped between Exit 118 and mile marker 123 is being directed around the crash scene on the right shoulder.
As of 3:35 p.m., about 9 miles of congestion was being reported on northbound I-95 approaching the scene.
Motorists traveling north from the Richmond area and points south may consider taking I-95's Exit 104 (Carmel Church) in Caroline County to use state Route 207 and U.S. Route 301 as another alternate route.
