Local Democratic committees are hosting candidate forums this week ahead of the June 11 primary.

At 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, the Albemarle County Democratic Party and the Charlottesville Democratic Committee are hosting the 57th District House of Delegates candidates, University of Virginia professor Sally Hudson and Charlottesville City Councilor Kathy Galvin, for a forum at the Haven.

No Republican or independent candidates have announced intentions to run for the seat.

On Saturday, the Rivanna District Committee of the Albemarle County Democratic Party is hosting a candidate forum at 1:30 p.m. for those seeking the party’s nominations for the 17th District state Senate seat, the 57th House seat and the Rivanna District seat on the Albemarle County Board of Supervisors.

Saturday’s forum is being held at Northside Library.

Former Charlottesville School Board member Amy Laufer and computer analyst Ben Hixon are seeking the Democratic nomination for the 17th District Senate seat, which is held by Sen. Bryce Reeves, R-Spotsylvania, who is in his second four-year term. Rich Breeden of Spotsylvania, vice president of government contractor Kingfisher Systems Inc., will challenge Reeves for the Republican nomination.

Bea LaPisto Kirtley and Jerrod Smith are seeking the Democratic nomination for the Rivanna District supervisor seat. No Republican or independent candidates have announced campaigns in that race.
