On December 11th 2014, the Waynesboro News Virginian introduced All Access, a new program that offers unlimited access to all our digital products and home delivery of the newspaper. Here are frequently asked questions about All Access subscriptions. If you have other questions, feel free to contact us using this form.


What is All Access?

All Access gives you the ability to read Waynesboro News Virginian content anywhere, any time. In print, on your computer or using your phone or tablet, All Access has something for you. All Access includes home delivery of the newspaper at a frequency of your choice; unlimited access to; unlimited access to the mobile version of (optimized for smart phones and tablets) and an electronic replica edition of the daily newspaper.

Does this mean I’ll be paying a fee to use your website?

All visitors to our website will be able to view 10 articles or photo galleries each month free of charge. In addition, some areas of -- such as our advertising sections and video -- will remain available free of charge and will not count toward the monthly page view limit. The system is based on a rolling 30-day period that begins the first time you access the site on or anytime after December 10th, 2014.

How much does an All Access membership cost?

For current subscribers to Waynesboro News Virginian:
• If you have seven-day (Monday - Sunday) home delivery and are not part of special introductory offer, the switch to All Access is complimentary with the price of your subscription. You will not pay additional for the digital component of All Access.
• Waynesboro News Virginian newspaper subscribers who receive home delivery fewer than seven days a week may upgrade to All Access for an additional $1.99 for the first 13 weeks. This includes your normal home delivered copies of the paper plus All Access the remaining days of the week. After the intro rate expires, the price will increase to $17.95. Note that customers with special rates will have their rates moved to the standard print rate plus $1.99 during the intro period.
• There is a digital-only option that includes unlimited access to our website, our mobile website and the e-edition. A digital-only subscription costs $21.00 per month no matter where you are located. Includes unlimited access to,, and • All of these subscription options are available to non-subscribers, too. A non-subscriber can choose any print subscription, digital only subscription or digital and print combination subscription for rate of $17.95 per month.

Am I required to be an All Access customer?

No. You will not be required to become an All Access subscriber. Any home delivery newspaper subscriber can choose to receive just the print edition. New subscribers who want a print subscription only may call our customer service center at (434) 978-7201. Remember, seven-day subscribers receive All Access at no additional cost.

Why are you making this change?

The News Virginian is the Charlottesville region’s most trusted source for news. It’s produced by professional journalists who are committed to bringing you in-depth local news coverage plus the best in commentary, sports and culture. Like many other news organizations, we have decided to begin charging for access to our digital products. This allows us to continue to invest in the quality journalism you rely on.

Why should I pay for news online?

It takes a devoted group of reporters, editors, designers, artists, photographers and other professionals to produce the newspaper and website each day. Charging a fee for full access to our digital content will enable us to continue delivering this high-quality newspaper journalism. If you’re a regular reader of our online products, we hope you’ll consider upgrading to All Access. Our All Access subscribers receive unlimited access to all our digital content including features not available in print – such as incessantly updated breaking news, blog posts, video, photo galleries, databases and other interactive elements.

Why, do All Access subscriptions cost the same no matter how often I receive the newspaper at my home?

No matter how you read us – in print or online – there is a considerable cost to produce the news, commentary and advertising content you enjoy. With All Access, we’ll be providing you with quality content every day of the week across multiple channels. All Access pricing is based on the value of the content.

Why, after the introductory period is over, does the digital-only option cost the most?

Conventionally, our business has subsidized the cost of producing content with advertising – particularly the glossy inserts that many readers see in the newspaper on Sundays. When an All Access subscriber chooses the digital-only option, our business misses out on the chance to subsidize the cost of producing content. As a result, digital-only subscribers are paying a higher rate for the content.


I have home delivery of the newspaper. What does All Access mean for me?

All Access adds value to your subscription. Seven-day home delivery customers who are not part of a special introductory offer receive All Access included in the price of their subscription. You will not pay anything additional. It takes just a few minutes to add All Access to their accounts. Click here to get started.

I’m not currently a subscriber. What are my options?

You can choose from any existing print subscription offer (Seven Day, Six Day, Three day and Sunday Only). Remember: If you choose our seven-day option, you can be All Access subscriber for free. Seven-day All Access is the best value for subscribers. Other home delivery options will include an additional amount to upgrade to All Access. You also may choose to be a digital-only subscriber.

I’m a seven-day home delivery subscriber. How do I activate All Access?

Click here and log into Online Account Management to update your subscription. If you don’t have an Online Account Management username and password, click “Enroll”. Remember: All Access is included in the price of the subscription for seven-day home delivery customers who are not part of a discounted introductory offer.

How do I add Access to my subscription?

If you are a seven-day subscriber, you need to add All Access to your current subscription. Click here to get started. Remember, there is no additional charge for All Access for seven-day home delivery subscribers. If you have another subscription type, click on the appropriate option here to add All Access. If you want to upgrade your print subscription to seven days a week, log into your online account here and click on “Change Product”. Or you may call us at (434) 978-7201 for All Access.

I don’t want the print newspaper. Can I get All Access for digital only?

Yes. New subscribers can purchase a digital-only subscription by clicking here. Current home delivery subscribers who wish to convert to digital only log onto their online Account Management and click “Change Product” or you may call (434) 978-7201 for All Access.

I don’t want to pay for online access. Can I still read

Visitors will still be able to view 10 articles and photo galleries on within a 30-day period without paying a fee. In addition, certain areas of the site will be available free of charge including classified advertising, video, obituaries and content from The Associated Press. Once you’ve looked at 10 articles during a 30-day period, you will have to subscribe to continue reading.

I’m already an e-Edition subscriber. Does this affect me?

Yes. Your current e-Edition is being discontinued and we are replacing it with All Access. If you’re interested in upgrading to an All Access subscription, call (434) 978-7201.

I just want access to without mobile or e-edition. Can I purchase that at a lower cost?

No, the All Access package includes the website, an online replica edition and the mobile website. Mobile web access makes it easier for you to read content on a smart phone or tablet.

I’m a seven-day subscriber, and I don’t want All Access. Can I get a discount?

No, but you may continue with your current print-only subscription. We are not requiring our readers to activate or register for All Access.

Do you have a day pass or week pass option?

Not at this time.


What counts toward my monthly limit?

Any article or photo gallery at counts toward your 30-day page view limit. Visits to our home page and other pages that list stories do not count. Also, advertising content, news delivered by The Associated Press and other wire services and video content do not count toward your 30-day limit. Some sections of our site produced by our online partners will not be metered either.

How can I keep track of how many articles I’ve read? How will I know when I reach my limit for page views in a month?

When you have three page views remaining in a 30-day period, you will see a notification as well as a link to the page where you can sign up for All Access. When you’ve reached your monthly limit, you will only be able to access advertising content, video, obituaries and news from wire services, such as The Associated Press, unless you purchase All Access.

Will I be able to access articles on through Facebook, Twitter, blogs or search engines?

Yes. As long as the link or post on a social site is live, you will be able to click through to the story. If you do not have All Access, each click-through will count toward the page view limit for the given 30-day period. We encourage you to link to our content through your social media accounts.

Can I make and read comments without having All Access?

You may comment and read comments on stories, but article pages where comments are made count against your 30-day limit.

Do I need All Access to use your mobile website or app?

Page views on the mobile website will count toward a monthly limit for visitors. The mobile website contains all the content produced by the Waynesboro News Virginian. Our app is free to download and use, however it will include a limited amount of breaking news content.

What about e-mail newsletters?

You can continue to register and receive e-mail newsletters without All Access. Opening a newsletter itself does not count toward your monthly page view limit, but most stories you click through to on will be counted. To register for newsletters, click here.

How does the All Access e-edition work?

Click here and choose the paper from the day you’re interested in reading. Log in when prompted to, and then using your internet browser, you can read page by page.

Will the monthly article limit change in the future?

The threshold is subject to change.


Do I need a username and password?

Yes. You will be issued a username and password when you register. Your username will be your e-mail address.

What will you do with my registration information?

The Waynesboro News Virginian respects your privacy and will not sell, rent or share your personal information with third parties. Our registration process helps us to serve you better. How is All Access billed?

If you are a current subscriber adding All Access, the easiest way to pay for your subscription is through monthly billing to a credit or debit card. Many of our print subscribers use this easy method of payment now. If you choose to receive only the print edition or if you are an existing subscriber adding All Access, you may continue to receive bills through the mail if you like. Call (434) 978-7201 to arrange this. However, we encourage you to consider signing up for monthly credit or debit card payment as it makes your monthly transaction easier for everyone. Any subscriber who takes digital only must pay monthly with a credit or debit card.

What is your cancellation and refund policy?

Your All Access subscription will continue until cancelled. You may stop your subscription at any time by calling our Customer Service team at (434) 978-7201. Upon cancellation, any outstanding balance will be refunded to the credit or debit card on file. After cancellation, you will still be able to view a limited number of articles per 30-day period on just like any other non-subscriber.

I’m outside the United States. How will my subscription price be calculated?

All prices are in U.S. dollars and will be billed to your credit or debit card in U.S. dollars.

May I give someone All Access as a gift?

I am having a technical issue accessing the site. How can I get help?

How can I tell if I am logged in?

You should see your screen name at the top right corner of the page on While your e-mail address is your username, you may choose a different screen name if you like. If you see “Log in” in the top right corner, you are not logged in.

I registered for All Access, but I still can’t see more pages. What should I do?

Check to be sure you are logged in. Look for your name at the top right corner of the page on If you are still having problems, please use this form or contact us at (434) 978-7201.

How can I change the e-mail address or password associated with my subscription?

For an existing subscription, click here, log in and then click on UPDATE ACCOUNT on the left side of the page. You can update your e-mail address there; this will update your username. To change your password, go to the same page and look for CHANGE PASSWORD on the left side.

What is my user name?

Your username is the e-mail address we have on file for you. This should make it easier for you to remember.

I’ve forgotten my password. What should I do?

Can I share the user name and password associated with my subscription?

Each username and password can be used by three devices at a time. You may share it within your household, but be aware of the limitation. You should not circulate your username and password beyond your household because your account information will be visible to that person.

Can I access on my smart phone or tablet?

Yes, your All Access membership includes unlimited access to on any computer or device. Typically, a mobile device will automatically access the mobile version of our website, which is easy to use on smart phones.

What if I pay my carrier each month?

All Access customers must pay in advance through the office. Besides saving money versus the carrier collect rate, office pay ensures accurate accounting for your subscription.


I subscribed but still haven’t received the newspaper. When can I expect delivery to start?

In some instances, newspaper delivery can take a few days to begin. If you’re not receiving your newspaper, please call us at (434) 978-7201.

When can I expect my newspaper to be delivered each day?

We aim to deliver your newspaper on weekdays by 6:30a.m. Monday – Saturday and on Sundays by 6:30 a.m.
