A Waynesboro man accused of sexually abusing two girls is free on bond while awaiting a preliminary hearing in the case.
On Wednesday, Sgt. K.A. Shifflett, public information officer for the Staunton Police Department, said Jason Michael Trujillo, 35, was arrested Friday in Staunton on three felony counts of aggravated sexual battery. The allegations against Trujillo are that he molested two girls younger than 17 who were previously known to him, Shifflett said.
Staunton police began a criminal investigation after Child Protective Services notified authorities of the allegations in January. Investigators believe the abuse occurred for more than a year.
Further details of the case were not disclosed owing to the age of the victims and the nature of the alleged crime.
After turning himself into police on Friday, Trujillo was jailed at Middle River Regional Jail in Verona and then released on bond.
Shifflett said the next step in the case would be a preliminary hearing in Staunton Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court.
