Valley Program for Aging Services has heat relief and nutrition management programs available to community members 60 and older. The program is a collaboration with other organizations to benefit Waynesboro, Staunton and Augusta County community members.

The Farm Fresh for Seniors Program offers eligible adults $40 in coupons to purchase fresh, locally grown fruits, vegetables and cut herbs from participating farmers at the Staunton, Verona and Waynesboro farmers markets this summer. This is sponsored by VPAS in addition to Virginia Department for Aging and Rehabilitative Services and Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services.

To qualify for the Farm Fresh for Seniors Program, people must be 60 or older, live in Waynesboro, Staunton or Augusta County. If single, their monthly income can’t exceed $1,561 or per couple $2,114. They must also have transportation to the markets and be present to pick up the coupons.

This program begins Monday and ends in mid-November.

Coupon pickups are at the Staunton Senior Center on June 26 from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. and the Waynesboro Senior Center on June 27 at 10 a.m. until 2 p.m.

The Senior Cool Care Program is for eligible people who need help cooling their homes. Certain people will receive a single-room air conditioner; limited supplies are available. Fans are also available.

The Senior Cool Care Program is sponsored by Dominion Energy. Those interested in applying should contact the local VPAS office at (540) 949-7141.
