Virginia State Police are investigating a Sunday morning fire that claimed the life of a 59-year-old Lyndhurst woman.
According to a statement Monday afternoon from Corrine Geller, state police public relations director, the agency’s Bureau of Criminal Investigation’s Appomattox Field Office is investigating the fire, which occurred at a home in the 100 block of Mount Torrey Road.
Geller, in an emailed statement, said fire crews were called at 11:08 a.m. Sunday to the home, where firefighters found a resident of the house, Martha J. Craig, 59, inside. Craig was deceased, according to Geller.
No one else was inside the residence at the time of the fire, she said.
Though the origin and cause of the fire are still under investigation, it does not appear to be suspicious in nature, according to Geller’s statement.
Attempts to reach Augusta County Fire & Rescue officials for more information Monday were unsuccessful.
