The Waynesboro man who took $300 from Scotto’s Italian Restaurant & Pizzeria at gunpoint a year ago will serve four more years in prison on Augusta County convictions.
A Waynesboro judge last month sentenced Douglas Eugene Barnes, 53, to 17 years in prison for the pizzeria stickup at 1412 W. Broad Street.
An Augusta County judge added four years on Thursday for grand larceny and breaking and entering charges stemming from Barnes’ escape. Authorities searched for a day for Barnes, including with tracking dogs and a state police helicopter. When he broke into the home of an acquaintance, a house alarm was triggered, leading to his arrest, police said.
Barnes’ criminal record includes robbery in California in 1991, several DUIs, destruction of property, assault and grand larceny.
