STAUNTON — Robert E. Lee High School’s Kyle Stenzel scored five goals Monday, powering the unbeaten Leemen to a 17-0 trouncing of the Strasburg Rams in the quarterfinals of the Region 2B boys soccer tournament played at Staunton Memorial Stadium.

Francesco Nunez added a hat trick for the Leemen, while Thomas Otteni scored twice.

Marcos Sasia, Charles Otteni, Cooper Yurish, Carson Murray, Quinn Anderson, Isaiah Knopp and McCord Lowman all tallied single goals.

Thomas Otteni assisted on three goals and Stenzel collected a pair of assists.

The 17 goals were the most the Leemen have scored this season, bringing their total to 179 in 20 matches. There is no mercy rule in regional or state competition. Lee’s defense has given up only three goals.

Lee (20-0) will host either Page County or Clarke County on Wednesday in the Region 2B semifinals. The winner clinches a berth in next week’s Class 2 state tournament.

Lee lost to George Mason in last year’s state semifinals after beating the Mustangs in the regional championship. The two teams are on the same collision course again.
