BEDFORD — Liberty’s Millie Thompson struck out 11 and Machenze Flood hit a sixth-inning solo home run to give the Minettes some breathing room in a Region 3C softball semifinal victory over the Fort Defiance Indians on Tuesday.

Liberty (18-6) is scheduled to host the Region 3C championship at 7 p.m. Thursday and will play Turner Ashby. Ashby throttled Monticello, 18-0. Both Liberty and TA have locked up berths into the Class 3 state tournament.

The Minettes scored three times in the third — two on Gracie Dooley’s double and one on Casey Whorley’s single — to take a 4-2 lead.

Fort cut the deficit to 4-3 in the sixth before Flood’s homer gave LHS some breathing room.

Dooley and Whorley each went 2 for 3 with two RBIs. Bri Allen went 3 for 4 for Fort.
