Patrick Joseph Blommel, 87, of Bon Air, joined the Lord on Saturday, June 1, 2019. He was born on March 14, 1932, in Florida, to the late Anthony and Marie Blommel. He was also preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Joyce Ann; and brothers, Anthony Jr., Bernard Leroy, and John Michael. He is survived by his daughter, Dr. Julie Lynn Blommel and her husband, Richard Aasen; three grandchildren, Annie Elizabeth Aasen and her husband, Robert Mulreany, Kristian Patrick Aasen and his wife, Alaina, and Laura Elise Aasen and boyfriend, AJ Brown; one great-grandchild, Coraleigh Mae Mulreany; sister, Johanna Chavis; sister-in-law, Rita Blommel; brothers-in-law, John Pulley Jr. and his wife, Judy, and Linwood Pulley and his wife, Patsy; as well as adored nieces, nephews, friends and neighbors. Patrick attended Sacred Heart Catholic School, left school to work and then joined the U.S. Navy. It was in the Navy that he completed his high school degree and received his training as a steel worker and construction supervisor. He was deployed in Japan and Guam. When he returned he married his sweetheart, Joyce, and had a long, successful career with Bass Construction Company. All who knew him understood his deep love of fishing and of the Outer Banks, where he spent so many years throwing out a line. The family will receive friends from 9:30 until 11 a.m. Saturday, June 8, 2019, at Bliley's-Chippenham, 6900 Hull Street Rd., where a funeral ceremony will be held at 11 a.m. Interment will follow in Dale Memorial Park.
