Carol S. Kaplan, 85, of Charlottesville, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 5, 2019, with her family by her side. She was born to the late Benjamin and Ruth Miller of Richmond Hill, New York. She graduated from Richmond Hill High School in 1951 and received both her B.A. and M.A. in elementary education from Queens College. Carol married Saul Kaplan in 1952, and they lived together in Queens, New York, for 38 years before relocating to Palmyra, Va., in 1990 and finally, to Martha Jefferson House in 2019. She is survived by her husband of 66 years and her three sons, Marc Kaplan of Florida, Eric Kaplan of Virginia, and Paul Kaplan of Toronto, Canada. She is also survived by six grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Carol was an avid reader, and she loved to learn. She, along with her husband, Saul, attended over 50 Elder Hostels over a period of 20 years. Most of all she loved and was extremely proud of the many accomplishments of her children and grandchildren, and she leaves behind many beautiful memories. Graveside services will be held at the Hebrew Cemetery in Charlottesville (740 1st St. S, Charlottesville, VA--Elliott Avenue and 1st Street) at 3 p.m. on Friday, June 7, 2019. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Martha Jefferson House in Charlottesville, VA.
