Steve Nelson Snead, 67, of Charlottesville, passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 2, 2019, surrounded by his family. Born on January 15, 1952, in Charlottesville, Virginia, he was the son of the late Bruce Nelson Snead and the late Doris E. Snead. Steve was a former football star for Lane High School and spent over a decade with the Charlottesville Police department. Most recently, he worked as a chauffeur which combined two of the things he loved most driving, and people. He loved spending time listening to music, going to concerts, watching his Steelers and Mountaineers, and most of all, spending time with his children and grandchildren. Steve dearly loved the beach and spent his final days in Hampton with his son, living out his dream to be close to the water. He was preceded in death by the love of his life, Elena S. Snead. He took so much joy and comfort during his illness in the fact that he would rejoin her when the time came. Steve is survived by two sons, Shawn Snead and his wife, Snoqualmie, of Hampton, Virginia, and Travis Snead and his wife Kelly, of Columbus, Ohio; three daughters, Rachel Snead of Charlottesville, Amanda Snead of Charlottesville, and Amy Snead of Charlottesville; two stepsons that he loved just as his own, Joseph Haught of Charlottesville, and Troy Haught and his wife, Meghan, of Palmyra, Virginia; 11 grandchildren, Ryan and Riley of Columbus, Ohio, and Leo, Anya, Ian, Kane, Gabriel, Samantha, Jacob, Katie, and Luke, all of Charlottesville. He was also preceded in death by his stepdaughter, Merea Yancey of Charlottesville, whom he loved dearly. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 8, 2019, at Hill and Wood Funeral Home in Charlottesville. Interment will be private. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. at the same location on Friday, June 7, 2019. The family would like to thank his team of doctors, nurses, and caregivers in Charlottesville, Hampton, Norfolk, and Virginia Beach for their support, concern, and care of Steve, especially the Sentara Hospice House of Virginia Beach for guiding and supporting Steve and his family at the end. In lieu of flowers, please support the Sentara Hospice House in Virginia Beach by making a donation to them in his name.
