Broadband installers hit a waterline in Gordonsville

Contractors examine the area where their drilling equipment ran into a waterline at the Gordonsville traffic circle.

Contractors laying cable for the county broadband project hit a waterline at an entrance to the Gordonsville traffic circle Wednesday afternoon. The accident temporarily halted installation of cable not far from Gordon-Barbour Elementary School.

Initiated by the Orange County Public Schools, the network of broadband cable will speed up internet service at all the public schools. If the county succeeds in its plans, the newly laid cable also will give local residents access to affordable high-speed internet services.

Workers on site in Gordonsville said they are trying to meet the June 30 deadline for completion of the long-running project.
