Orange County High School’s track and field teams won a dozen events in a strong performance last Wednesday in a four-team meet at Fluvanna High School.

In a meet featuring Orange, Fluvanna, Louisa and Powhatan, the Hornet boys finished second (80.50) and the girls third (34). The Louisa Lions won both the boys’ (106.50) and girls’ (124.80) team titles. Fluvanna’s girls finished second (74.20) with Powhatan (25) fourth. The Fluco boys were third (44.50) and Powhatan fourth (27.50).

Elijah Suggs won two hurdle races and the high jump to lead the Hornets.

Suggs won the 110 hurdles (16.03) and the 300 hurdles (40.97) and cleared 5’ 10” to win the high jump.

Meanwhile, the Hornet boys’ 4 x 400 relay team (3:36.62) and 4 x 100 relay team (45.48) took top spots.

Shannon Mull (53.09) won the boys’ 400 and Jordan Presley won the 200 (23.75) with Chris Washington second (23.88). The two traded places in the 100 with Washington (11.51) edging Presley (11.53). Bryan Smith (11.71) gave the Hornets a top-three sweep.

Ethan Pettyjohn (10:37.78) won the 3200.

Tyrone Warren finished second in the high jump (5’ 8”), third in the 300 hurdles (44.13) and fifth in the long jump (19’ 9.25”). Presley was third in the long jump (20’ 4”). The boys’ 4 x 800 relay team also finished third (9:39.67).

Others who earned points for the Orange boys included: Jarious Faulkner (fourth in the 400), Trevor Hitt (fifth in the 800) and Bobby Lee (fifth in the 1600).

Rebekah Zummo and Hannah Snodgrass recorded wins for the Hornet girls.

Zummo won the 400 (1:10.45) with Snodgrass taking the 100 hurdles (16.68).

Jasmine Tompkins was second in the shot put (31’ 1”) and fifth in the discus (77’ 8”). The 4 x 100 relay team was second (54.90) and Jada Reeves was third in the high jump (4’ 9”).

Cydney Downin was fourth in the 200 and fifth in the 100, the long jump and triple jump. DeSante Clark was fourth in the 300 hurdles with Snodgrass fifth.

The track teams were scheduled to run Wednesday at Powhatan and Saturday at Heritage High School in Lynchburg.
