Andrew Scanlon and Max Wooten were key cogs for the Albemarle boys lacrosse team as it captured the Region 5D championship and earned another Class 5 state tournament berth.
Scanlon and Wooten were recognized for their efforts Wednesday afternoon as they were named to the Virginia High School League’s Class 5 all-state team. Both players were first-team selections.
Scanlon scored a career-high 50 goals to garner Region 5D Player of the Year honors. The junior attackman also posted 25 assists and a team-high 75 points overall.
Wooten was a fixture on the back end for the Patriots’ defense. The sophomore defender collected 45 ground balls and forced 27 turnovers for an Albemarle unit that finished the season with an impressive 17-4 record.
Myers, Pinnata honored
Katie Myers and Bridget Pinnata were senior leaders on a relatively young Albemarle girls lacrosse team this past spring.
After a successful seasons, both players were named to the VHSL Class 5 second team all-state squad on Wednesday.
Myers was a consistent offensive contributor for Albemarle this spring. The senior posted 27 goals on 46 shots and tallied four assists in her final season with the Patriots. She also registered 12 ground balls, four forced turnovers and won 23 draw controls.
Pinnata was a defensive force in the final third for the Patriots. The senior collected 13 ground balls, forced 10 turnovers, had 12 draw controls and tallied a pair of knockdowns. She also pitched in offensively, finishing with four goals on eight shots and an assist
