ANDREW SHURTLEFF/THE DAILY PROGRESS Virginia center Jack Salt (33) dunks the ball during the ACC Tournament quarterfinal game against North Carolina State. Officials called a technical foul after Salt hung on the rim too long. Virginia preceded to defeat North Carolina State 76-56.

Former Virginia center Jack Salt will play with the Phoenix Suns in the upcoming NBA Summer League.

Salt was a team captain for the Cavaliers this past season as they won the first national championship in program history. The 6-foot-10, 250-pound center started 29 games for Virginia in 2018-19, averaging 3.7 points and 3.7 rebounds per game for the Wahoos.

Salt’s best performance of the season came in the ACC Tournament quarterfinals against N.C. State, when he scored 18 points and pulled down six rebounds in the Cavaliers’ 76-56 victory.

Salt will likely play alongside former Virginia teammate Ty Jerome in the NBA Summer League. Jerome was taken by the Philadelphia 76ers with the 24th overall pick in the NBA Draft on Thursday, but is expected to be traded to the Suns once NBA trades can be finalized on July 6.

The Suns begin Summer League play against the Denver Nuggets on Friday, July 5 at 11:30 p.m. Eastern at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas.
