William Monroe's Samantha Brunelle is the 2017-18 Central Virginia Girls Basketball Player of the Year.

Brunelle rewrote the record books at William Monroe again this season. After averaging more than 25 points and 15 rebounds a game for the third season in a row, she became the Greene Dragons’ first Gatorade and VHSL state player of the year in program history.

As a freshman, she set VHSL records for most rebounds in a game and most points in a season by a freshman. This season, she shot 52 percent from the floor and scored more than 30 points in a game 12 times, earning Northwestern District and Region 3B Player of the Year honors.
