The Virginia football team added a pair of commitments to its 2020 recruiting class over the weekend.

After receiving a commitment from South Bend, Indiana quarterback Ira Armstead on Saturday, the Cavaliers picked up a pledge from tight end Joshua Rawlings on Sunday night.

Rawlings, a 6-foot-5, 230-pounder from Pittsburgh, announced his commitment to the Cavaliers in a Twitter post.

“I’m excited to announce that I will be continuing my athletic and most importantly my academic career at the University of Virginia,” Rawlings wrote.

Rawlings, who plays for Woodland Hills High School in the Pittsburgh area, is rated a 3-star recruit by 247sports.

He chose Virginia over offers from several Big Ten, Big 12 and ACC schools, including Minnesota, Maryland, Iowa State, Pittsburgh, Indiana, Syracuse and West Virginia. Rawlings also had an offer from Vanderbilt and several MAC programs, according to 247sports.

“Before my freshman year, if you were to tell me that I’d have the opportunity to choose amongst an exclusive list of universities to receive a free education, I wouldn’t have believed you,” Rawlings wrote. “By the grace of god I’ve been blessed abundantly these past three years.”

Virginia currently has six tight ends on its roster, led by senior Tanner Cowley, who played in all 13 games for the Wahoos last season. Other tight ends for the Cavaliers include junior Christian Baumgardner, sophomore T.J. Kitts and redshirt freshman Grant Misch. Mike Kosar and Landry Gerbers are set to join the program this fall as freshmen.

Following Armstead’s and Rawlings’ commitments, Virginia’s 2020 recruiting class now has nine commitments. The others are cornerback Bud Clark, safety Donovan Johnson, defensive lineman Jahmeer Carter, offensive tackle Jimmy Christ, offensive lineman Jestus Johnson, receiver Lavel Davis and linebacker Sam Brady.
