The Charlottesville Tom Sox saw their six-game winning streak end with a 5-4 loss to the Front Royal Cardinals on Tuesday night.
After Charlottesville (6-2) rallied to tie the game in the top of the ninth inning, Front Royal (4-5) walked off with the win in the bottom of the inning on Joel Alvarez’s RBI single off Tom Sox reliever Brian Owens.
Cayman Richardson and Kevin Madden each finished with two hits for the Tom Sox. Dylan Menhennett led the way for the Cardinals’ offense, finishing 2-for-4 with two RBI and two runs scored.
Front Royal started the game hot, scoring four runs in the first two innings to take an early 4-0 lead. Charlottesville responded with a three-run sixth inning to pull within one, then tied the game in the ninth inning when Gregory Ryan scored on a wild pitch.
